1. Who we are
Vervo (the “app”, “we”, “us”) is created and operated by Maksymilian Mogilski, who is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. If you have any questions about your privacy, contact maxmogilski@gmail.com.
This policy explains what data the Vervo iOS app and this website collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
2. Data we collect
Anonymous account
When you first open the app, it creates an anonymous account so your progress can be saved and synced. This account has a random identifier. We don't ask for your name, email address or phone number.
Practice records
For each practice rep we store when it happened, how many seconds you spoke and how many words you said. We use these to show your streak, totals and speaking pace.
Your spoken answers
While you speak, the app uses Apple's speech recognition to turn your voice into text. Where your device supports it, this happens entirely on your device. Otherwise Apple may process the audio under Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not record, store or upload your audio.
After a rep, the transcript and the topic are sent to our server and passed to an AI model to generate feedback. We don't store the transcript itself. We do store the feedback that comes back (a score, notes and suggestions), which can quote short parts of what you said, so you can see it again and so we can apply a daily feedback limit.
Onboarding answers
Your answers to the onboarding questions are stored on your device. A short summary (your main focus, goals, preferred speaking style, planned minutes per day and readiness level) is shared with our subscription provider to choose which subscription screen you see. When you finish onboarding, your answers are also saved to your analytics profile (see “Usage analytics” below).
Purchases
Subscriptions are bought and billed through Apple's App Store. We never see or store your payment details. We receive only your subscription status (for example, active or expired).
Technical data
Our servers and service providers may record basic technical data such as error logs, IP addresses and request times, which we use to keep the service running, secure and free of abuse.
Usage analytics
The app records how it's used with Mixpanel: events such as opening the app, viewing onboarding steps, starting and finishing a rep, feedback scores and errors, and subscription screen and purchase events. These events are linked to your anonymous account identifier and include device details (such as device model, iOS version, app version and language) and an approximate location (country, region and city) estimated from your IP address. Analytics never include what you say: no transcripts and no other free text. We use them to understand which features work and where people get stuck.
This website
This website doesn't use cookies for advertising or analytics and doesn't ask you for personal data. It counts visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which works without cookies: it records the pages viewed, the referring site, and your browser, operating system, device type and country. Visitors are told apart by an anonymous identifier that changes every day, so you can't be followed across days or other sites. Our hosting provider may also keep standard server logs. The language switcher remembers your choice in a small cookie that only stores the language.
3. How we use your data
- To provide the app: drawing topics, saving your reps and showing your progress.
- To generate AI feedback on your answers.
- To manage your subscription and access to the app.
- To prevent abuse, for example by limiting the number of AI feedback requests per day.
- To understand how the app is used and improve it.
- To fix bugs and keep the service secure.
We don't sell your personal data, we don't use it for advertising, and we don't use your answers to train AI models.
4. Legal bases (EEA and UK users)
We process your data because it's necessary to provide the service you asked for (performance of a contract), and for our legitimate interests in keeping the app secure, preventing abuse and improving it. Where the law requires consent, we'll ask for it, and you can withdraw it at any time.
5. Who we share data with
We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf:
- Supabase: database, authentication and server functions that store your anonymous account, practice records and feedback.
- OpenRouter and the AI model providers it routes to: generate feedback from your transcript. We configure requests to only use providers that state they don't store or train on the data they receive.
- Superwall: shows subscription screens, checks your subscription status and reports subscription screen and purchase events.
- Mixpanel: usage analytics, as described above. Our Mixpanel project stores data in the European Union.
- Vercel: hosts this website and provides its cookieless visitor statistics.
- Apple: speech recognition (when not done on your device), App Store purchases and subscriptions.
We may also disclose data if required by law, or to protect our rights, users or the public.
6. International transfers
Some of these providers may process data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. How long we keep data
We keep your practice records and feedback for as long as your account exists. Because the account is anonymous, deleting the app doesn't automatically delete this data from our servers. To have it deleted, email maxmogilski@gmail.com, and we'll delete it within 30 days. Error logs are kept for a limited period and then deleted.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data deleted;
- restrict or object to certain processing;
- receive your data in a portable format.
To use any of these rights, email maxmogilski@gmail.com. Since your account is anonymous, we may ask for details that help us find your data (for example, the dates you practiced). You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority, such as the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO) in Poland or the authority in your own country.
9. Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections, and access rules on our database make sure each account can only read its own records. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.
10. Children
Vervo isn't directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has used the app, contact us and we'll delete the related data.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll change the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app.
